In contrast, creative expression that accompanies a recipe can be copyrighted. The United States Copyright Office explains this distinction in its [https://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ33.pdf Circular 33]:

A recipe is a statement of the ingredients and procedure required for making a dish of food. A mere listing of ingredients or contents, or a simple set of directions, is uncopyrightable. As a result, the Office cannot register recipes consisting of a set of ingredients and a process for preparing a dish. In contrast, a recipe that creatively explains or depicts how or why to perform a particular activity may be copyrightable. A registration for a recipe may cover the written description or explanation of a process that appears in the work, as well as any photographs or illustrations that are owned by the applicant. However, the registration will not cover the list of ingredients that appear in each recipe, the underlying process for making the dish, or the resulting dish itself. The registration will also not cover the activities described in the work that are procedures, processes, or methods of operation, which are not subject to copyright protection.
== Background ==

I recently purchased a SBC named "Le Potato" -- the AML-S905X-CC from Libre Computer. Le Potato was developed and released a few years ago. From a hardware standpoint, the board seems solid, roughly analogous to a Raspberry Pi 3B+. From a software standpoint, Le Potato is less supported than the Raspberry Pi. I've cobbled together a few resources on the Internet and managed to install Freedombox on Le Potato.

== Steps ==

Things you will need:
* Separate computer
* Le Potato
* Power cord for Le Potato
* Keyboard (USB)
* SD Card
* Thumb drive (USB)
* Monitor
* HDMI cable between Le Potato and Monitor

=== Install Debian ===

The first step is to install Debian. I installed Debian 11 (Bullseye) using the instructions provided in the Google slide presentation available [https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1wzYGJUg2xncSdfZ9075b5yYwOUgADz6iMO7ZmoZIkaM/edit#slide=id.p here]. Here's my quick summary of the steps to install Debian 11 from the presentation:
# Using your separate computer, download the firmware for Le Potato [https://github.com/libre-computer-project/libretech-firmware/tree/aml-s905x-cc/v2022.04/mbruefi here].
# Decompress the firmware image using: xz -dk aml-s905x-cc.xzaml-s905x-cc-mbruefi.xz
# Flash the decompressed firmware image to your SD Card
# Using your separate computer, download a minimal network install Debian 11 image [https://www.debian.org/CD/netinst/ here].
# Flash the Debian 11 image to your Thumb drive
# Insert the SD Card into Le Potato and insert the Thumb drive into one of Le Potato's USB ports. Attach the power, keyboard, and monitor to Le Potato.
# Power on Le Potato and boot into the Debian install menu.
# Follow the prompts and the guidance in the Google slide presentation to install Debian onto the SD Card. Note that the normal install process will fail during the installation of Grub. You will have to follow the guidance to open a shell window and run distrofix.sh.
# Finish installation, and remove the Thumb drive when prompted.

Congratulations, you have just installed Debian 11 on your Le Potato!

=== Install Freedombox ===

# Restart your Le Potato. Boot into your Debian 11 command prompt and login as root.
# Update your package list: # apt-get update
# Install freedombox package: # DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install freedombox
# After all of the packages are installed (this takes time), make you view the secret key you will need to setup Freedombox through the web interface: # less /var/lib/plinth/firstboot-wizard-secret

To everyone's benefit, a recipe -- a list of ingredients and a process for preparing the result -- '''cannot''' be copyrighted.

== Ingredients ==

* 1 16-ounce package of silken tofu, drained
* 1 15-ounce can unsweetened pumpkin puree
* 0.75 cup granulated sugar
* 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
* 0.5 teaspoon salt
* 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 0.5 teaspoon ground ginger
* 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves

== Directions ==

# Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
# Blend tofu and pumpkin in a food processor until combined, looking orange. Add sugar and vanilla and blend until well combined. With a rubber spatula, scoop mixture out of food processor bowl and into a medium mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients and stir by hand until they are well integrated. Pour into 9-inch pie shell. Place pie shell on a baking tray, which goes into the oven.
# Bake at 425 for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 325 degrees. Bake for about 45 minutes, until filling is nearly set. You may also notice slight cracks, which is a good indication that filling is set.
# Remove from oven and cool about 1 hour. Cover with foil and place in refrigerator until cold, at least one hour. Best served cold.

* 1 lb dried black beans (about 2.5 - 3 cups)
* 1 Tablespoon olive oil
* 2 teaspoons minced garlic
* 1 cup coarsely chopped onions
* 1 cup coarsely chopped bell pepper (or light hot peppers)
* water
* 1 bay leaf
* 1 Tablespoon dried oregano
== Directions ==

# Soak beans in water for 8 hours (speed-soak if necessary). Drain beans.
# Heat oil using Saute in Instant Pot. Saute garlic until lightly browned. Add onions and pepper and saute for ~2 more minutes.
# Add the drained beans to the Instant Pot. Add oregano. Add just enough water to almost cover (but not cover). Stir. Add bay leaf.
# Close and lock the Instant Pot lid. Pressure cook for 16 minutes using Manual mode. # Allow the pressure to come down naturally (about 15 minutes after pressure cooking completes).
# Open lid and add vinegar and salt. Ideally, blend or mash about 1/3 - 1/2 the beans using a blender and mix back in.
# Stir in the parsley (optional) before serving.
# Serve with rice, cheese, sour cream, hot sauce, etc.
To everyone's benefit, a recipe -- a list of ingredients and a process for preparing the result -- '''cannot''' be copyrighted.

To the extent possible, I will attribute the original source of each recipe.
