Ingredients
- 0.75 cup water
- 1 egg
- 2 Tablespoons butter, softened
- 3.25 cups bread flour
- 2 Tablespoons sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 1.5 teaspoons yeast
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 Tablespoons cold water
- 1 Tablespoon poppy seeds
Directions
- Place all ingredients other than the last three in a stand mixer, mix into dough.
- Divide dough into three ropes. Braid together in classic challah shape.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until double (about 45 minutes).
- Mix egg yolk with cold water and brush over braided dough. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.
- Bake in a 375-degree oven until golden brown (about 25 minutes).
